Caroline Levine Responds to Corbin Hiday

For Hiday, Taylor’s work is important in part because it invites us to focus on the role of economics in the ongoing ecological crisis. I strongly agree. Nothing could be more urgent now. And Hiday is right to point to the need for thinking on newly large scales to address the interconnections of atmosphere and economics. But both capitalism and climate change often feel overwhelmingly large, too big to grasp, and the work of dismantling them too vast for any of us. Are there models of political action on a large scale that could help us here? Or might we imagine small-scale strategies that could be scaled up?
